RJMEC Chair briefs President Guelleh, stressed on the implementation of critical tasks of the R-ARCSS
The Chairperson of RJMEC Amb. Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai has on Monday 11 September 2023, held a fruitful meeting with President of the Republic of Djibouti and the Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Assembly of Heads of State and Government, H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh in Djibouti.
Amb. Gituai congratulated President Guelleh for his new role as the head of the Assembly, gave a detailed update on the status of the Revitalised Peace Agreement, progress thus far, challenges hampering its implementation and what remain at stake, going forward, as the R-ARCSS marks exactly 5 years, since it was signed in 12th Sep. 2018.
In his briefing, Amb. Gituai further stressed on the critical pending tasks including those crucial for the conduct of free, fair & credible elections, before the end of the Transitional Period of the Agreement in Dec 2024. On his part, President Guelleh thanked Amb. Gituai, appreciated the work of the RJMEC and expressed his unwavering commitment to the South Sudan peace process.
Ahead of the meeting with the President, Amb. Gituai also briefed the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Djibouti and the Chairperson of the IGAD Council of Ministers and, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf
